‘Erin Brockovich’, a lawyer without a diploma who won a Rp. 4.4 trillion lawsuit, because justice belongs to all beings
Of the dozens of interesting biographical films produced by Hollywood, ‘Erin Brockovich’ was released 15 years ago. This film tells the story of a woman who has no formal educational background in law, but is able to win cases worth US$ 333 million or currently around Rp 4.4 trillion.
This film directed by Steven Soderbergh stars Julia Roberts with a screenplay written by Susannah Grant. Through her role, Julia won an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors’ Guild Award and BAFTA for the Best Actress category.
The film’s story is set in 1993. Erin Brockovich, a single mother of three children, has to struggle every day because she doesn’t have a job. Erin’s first step into the world of law may never have crossed her mind.
Being the victim of a traffic collision, Erin enlists the help of attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney) to sue the doctor who crashed. But because of her explosive attitude in court, Erin’s case was not won.
Until one day Ed was surprised to see Erin in his office, and asked for a job. Out of pity, he gave her an assignment for a small job. Erin was shocked when she checked the documents for the real-estate company Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Hinkley in California who wanted to buy a resident named Donna Jensen.
It turned out that Donna had cancer, and her health history was terrible. When visiting her residence, Erin discovered another fact that the water in the area had been contaminated with arcinogenic hexavalent chromium due to PG&E waste.
Armed with curiosity and sincerity to help, Erin digs deeper into the case by visiting each house of the residents who were directly affected. She patiently discovers information bit by bit, sacrificing her time for her three beloved children for a greater cause.
‘Erin Brockovich’ is a film that touches, is touching and at the same time provides motivation that hard work will always pay off if you work with heart. Without a diploma, Erin was once looked down upon, but she did something much more useful than the top lawyer who graduated from a prestigious university in the film.

Erin Brockovich Film Review: The Joy of 2 Million Dollars
The hard struggle of a single mother and the struggle to defend what is right. That’s what I got from this film. Erin Brockovich is not an educated woman and is often labeled a “slut” because of her clothes. There are several inspirations for life from this film, so for the Erin Brockovich film review this time, I want to write down the inspiration.
Family is Main
The first inspiration from Erin Brockovich’s story is how she tries in such a way for her family. As a single parent, she felt she had to provide for her three children in such a way that they could live.
Even though it means he has to be willing to go here and there just to get some money so they can continue to live. At the beginning it was mentioned repeatedly that there was very little money in his account. But Erin didn’t stop trying.
Trust Instinct
He looked at the file from Rosalind and felt something was wrong. He even dared to ask permission to Ed to investigate. At his own expense (at first). That’s the next inspiration from this Erin Brockovich film.
Total In Work
One thing that I admire about Erin Brockovich is how total she is at work. He was willing to do the investigation for days. Even to the point that he had to not meet his children for a while.
The goal is one, to help residents who are cheated by these big companies. He was using his free time to do his chores – hmmm. I have a lot to learn from here. Being professional – that’s the inspiration for this film, and it all pays off at the end of the film where Erin receives a bonus of 2 million dollars. *sense*
Good at Communicating
One of the scenes that I like in Erin Brockovich’s film is when she and Ed visit Rosalind and two other families. Erin managed to easily convince Ed that the 40% rate on behalf of the family was appropriate. It was Erin’s words that managed to make the family melt and finally agreed to the tariff.
Erin Brockovich’s Final Movie Score
In the end, I myself really do not regret watching this old film. A bit late, but better than never, right? It is appropriate that Julia Robert won an Oscar through this film. Her acting in this film is very cool. It really feels like he’s totally in his role. Often it feels like the others are just patches.
