Modi: Johnny Depp directs Riccardo Scamarcio and Al Pacino in his new directorial film
Johnny Depp is ready to go back behind the camera for Waysbiopic about the famous Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani. For the actor it is the return to directing many years after his debut in that role, which took place in 1997 with The brave. On that occasion Depp was also the protagonist of the film, alongside his friend Marlon Brandowhile to be protagonists of Ways it has now been announced that they will be the Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio and the Oscar winner Al Pacino.
While Scamarcio will play the role of the protagonist, therefore playing another artist after being Caravaggio in The shadow of CaravaggioAl Pacino will instead play the role of the art collector Gangnat. This new film will also mark a new collaboration between Depp and Pacino after the two shared the scene in Donnie Brasco of 1997. The acclaimed French actor Pierre Nineyknown for films such as Yves Saint Laurent And Frantz, was instead chosen for the role of Utrillo, a contemporary French painter of Modigliani. The film, based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and adapted for the screen by Jerzy And Mary Kromolowskiwill recount the life of the Italian artist during his stay in Paris in 1916.
Over the course of 48 hours that see him on the run from the police in the streets and bars of war-torn Paris, we will meet Modigliani in the throes of a desire to end his career prematurely and leave the city. However, his will is rejected by his bohemian colleagues: the French artist Maurice Utrillo, the Belarusian Chaim Soutine and his English muse and lover, Beatrice Hastings. Modi seeks advice from his Polish art dealer and friend Leopold Zborowski, but the chaos will reach a crescendo when he is faced with a collector who could change his life. Shooting will begin in Budapest this fall, while a possible theatrical release date is not currently indicated.
