Synopsis Not Another Teen Movie is set in the boroughs of John Hughes High School, the students are just like any other teen in a teen movie. Popular jock Jake takes a bet from cocky blonde Austin, that he can turn Janey, the dumb beauty, into prom queen before the prom. But two people try to stop Jake from succeeding: his evil little sister, Catherine, the meanest girl in school, and Priscilla, an annoying cheerleader.
Who doesn’t love a good teen movie?! It’s absolutely impossible not to enjoy teen classics like Clueless, Mean Girls, She’s Everything, and the list goes on (and goes on). Even though we’re not teenagers anymore, that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy watching high school kids all grown up and struggling with everything from friendship issues to first loves to all kinds of drama and conflict.
In 2001, a film came out that duped and satirized all of our faves. Yup, we’re talking Not Another Teen Movie, funny movies like She’s Everything and 10 Things I Hate About You, Pretty Pink, Can’t Wait, and Varsity Blues. The main storyline is all He is everything: the popular boy wants to win the bet and earn more than the so-called unattractive and unpopular girl (who, of course, is really nice and smarter than anyone else). Not Another Teen Movie was a lot of fun and we loved everything, especially the fact that the high school the students attend is called John Hughes High School.
Want to know what the players were like then and what they are like today? We’ve got you covered! Check out the cast of Not Another Teen Movie: what they looked like in the movies and what they look like now!
1. Chris Evans: Jake Wyler / The Popular Jock
Yes, Chris Evans, aka big movie star, is in this movie. These days, we know him as a huge action star who has played Caption America in several Marvel films. And, okay, we know her too because, let’s face it, she’s totally hot. We can’t talk about Chris Evans and not mention about his good looks.
When he was in Not Another Teen Movie, he played the main male character, Jake Wyler, who was based on Zach Siler’s character Freddie Prince Jr. He’s Everything. You can definitely see the difference between how Chris looked then and how he looks now, can’t you? He was adorable and fresh-faced back in 2001 and, today, he’s even more handsome (if that’s even possible). Plus, he has a very attractive beard. Knocked out.
2. Chyler Leigh: Janey Briggs / The Pretty Ugly Girl
Yes, it’s a familiar face. None other than Lexie Gray from Grey’s Anatomy played the female lead, Janey Briggs, in Not Another Teen Movie.
As we may know, Janey is based on Rachel Leigh Cook’s character Lainey Boggs in She’s Everything. Chyler looked amazing when she starred in the movie, especially in the scene where she is wearing a short red dress, and of course, she looks just as good today. Since 2015, she has starred in the show Supergirl and definitely looks like a hottie. She’s the opposite of her character, basically. Her Not Another Teen Movie role brought her a lot of fame, and coupled with her turn on Grey’s, she’s definitely had a lot of success as an actress.
3. Lacey Chabert: Amanda Becker / The Perfect Girl
In the image on the left, still filming, Lacey Chabert looks like a spitting image of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character Amanda Beckett in Can’t Wait… which is the point, of course. Everything about her, from her baby blue tank top to her long brown hair, just screams JLH.
These days, Lacey Chabert looks pretty much the same, and she’s always been absolutely gorgeous. She does look more mature, of course, that’s what tends to be the case. She has had a very successful acting career, ranging from starring in Party of Five as Claudia’s younger sister to her starring turn in Mean Girls which made her a household name. He has also starred in many Hallmark films (in fact, he’s done 12).
4. Mia Kirshner: Catherine Wyler / The Cruelest Girl
It wouldn’t be a teen movie without a mean girl, and that’s where Mia Kirshner’s character, Catherine Wyler, comes in. She is based on two characters: Makenzie Siler, Anna Paquin’s She’s Everything character (who is Zach’s sister), and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Cruel Intentions character Kathryn Merteuil.
In the picture on the left, Mia Kirshner looks like the picture of 90s teen movie perfection, and in the picture on the right, she looks absolutely gorgeous. We can say that this is the same girl, with her pretty long brown hair, and today she looks beautiful, elegant and sophisticated. This Canadian actress is very successful, starring in 24 and The L Word. She has also guest starred on The Lost Girl and has been in several films.
5, Eric Christian Olsen: Austin / The Cocky Blonde Guy
Every teen movie needs a “snobbish blonde guy” too and that role went to Eric Christian Olsen, who played Austin. He is based on Paul Walker. He is everything character, Dean Sampson Jr. Don’t we just love turtlenecks?!
From the image on the left (which is still a movie) to the image on the right, we can tell that the actor has grown up a lot. When he starred in the film in 2001, he was adorable and baby-faced, and lately, he’s been looking much older with his messy beard and long wavy hair. Okay, okay, we’ll say it: he’s a total hunk. He has played Detective Marty Deeks in NCIS: Los Angeles and he has also been in many films including Sunshine Cleanse and Backup Plan.
6. JoAnna Garcia: Sandy Sue / The New Girl In School
Joanna Garcia is best known for her role as Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery Reba, and she has also appeared in numerous TV shows, ranging from The Astronaut Wives Club to Privileges to Jason (Probably) Saves the World. In 2001, she was the new girl at school in the film Not Another Teen, which was based on none other than Sandy in Fats.
Joanna looks very different today, mainly because of her beautiful long dark red hair. Seriously, could our hair look like this? Please? Pretty enough? We’d be totally happy with that, even if we do like our own hair. She is primarily a TV star but has been in several films, including American Pie 2. She is also married to baseball player Nick Swisher and they have two daughters named Emerson Jay and Sailor Stevie.
7. Jaime Pressly: Priscilla / The Nasty Cheerleader
Everyone hates cheerleaders in these types of movies, and it’s safe to say that we don’t really love Jaime Pressly cheerleader girl Priscilla. There’s a large number of characters it’s based on: Mena Suvari’s American Beauty character Angela Hayes, Taylor Vaughan’s Jodi Lyn O’Keefe character from She’s Everything, and two cheerleader characters Torrance and Big Red in Come on. Phew, that’s a lot.
In real life, Jaime Pressly couldn’t be farther from his Not Another Teen Movie character. She is sweet and friendly and gave birth to twin boys in October 2017. She is in a relationship with Hamzi Hijazi and they named their sons Lenon and Leo. He also has a son named Dezi James from a previous relationship.
