Shot in the cities of Columbus, New Orleans and West Palm Beach, the film was a moderate success upon its arrival. With a budget of about $30 million, Parker it earned 46 globally, and Statham was lauded for his performance. The protagonist of the story is the thief Parker, who built his fame on never robbing the most needy and innocent, instead often putting himself at their service. At the beginning of the film he finds himself involved in a new robbery, requested by his mentor, hurley. His task is to collaborate with a gang of criminals led by Melander to siphon off the proceeds of the Ohio State Fair, a local fair that raises millions of dollars. Despite an unexpected event, the coup succeeds but during the car escape Parker refuses the proposal to join the gang for their next coup. Unwilling to accept his refusal and give him his share of the loot, the criminals attack Parker and shoot him, leaving him apparently dead by the side of a deserted road.
However, he manages to survive, and to find shelter with a family of agricultural labourers. Here he regains his strength, planning a ruthless revenge against his attackers. Tracking them, Parker travels as far as glitzy Palm Beach, where he knows the criminals will pull off their next heist. To help him in the satisfaction of the rematch, there will be Leslie Rodgers, a real estate agent with an encyclopedic knowledge of the area. With her experience, Parker will become nearly unstoppable, and nothing will stop him from getting what he wants.
Parker: the cast of the film
To bring the famous character back to the big screen, Jason Statham he was the only actor considered by the producers and director. He is known for his great stage presence and experience with this type of action-packed and adrenaline-pumping stories. As usual, he asked to be able to interpret as many scenes as possible without making use of stunt doubles. He was thus able to perform daring car stunts and complex physical choreography. The director claimed to have been seriously concerned for his safety on several occasions, but Statham was not injured. Joining him in the role of his mentor Hurley is the Oscar-nominated actor Nick Nolte.
The role of the charming Leslie Rodgers is instead played by Jennifer Lopez. The actress expressed particular interest in this of her, which would allow her to return to acting in an action film after several romantic comedies. In the novel, the character actually has different origins than South American ones, but the director decided to rewrite it to fit Lopez.
