Poor Things: the teaser trailer of the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos with Emma Stone
The first official trailer for the acclaimed director’s adaptation Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The sacrifice of the sacred deer) of the bestselling novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray, Poor Thingswhich serves as an even more twisted retelling of the classic sci-fi horror novel by Mary Shelleywill be online tomorrow, but today we have the opportunity to see the first teaser, which introduces us to new images of the film and its atmosphere, characterized by very special environments and colours.
The film is described as “a Victorian tale of love, discovery and scientific daring, Poor Things tells the incredible story of Belle Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist.” Under her protection, Bella becomes eager to learn and experience the world. However, attracted by worldliness, the young woman will decide to run away with Duncan Wedderburn, an astute and dissolute lawyer, in a dizzying adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her time, Bella will therefore do everything to defend her equality with others.
Emma Stone plays the young woman, while in Poor Things they also recite Willem Dafoe, Mark RuffaloRamy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Jerrod Carmichael, Margaret QualleySuzy Bemba, Kathryn Hunter and Wayne Brett. Instead, there is the screenplay Tony McNamaraalso author of the previous film by Lanthimos, The favourite. The film also represents the second collaboration between the director and Stone, who will work together again for the next, already announced Lanthimos film, AND. Waiting to know more about that project too, the Searchlight Pictureswhich is handling the distribution of the film, has announced that the theatrical release date of Poor Things is fixed atSeptember 8th of this year.
