Will is secretly in love with Elizabeth who, eight years earlier, had saved him from certain death at sea, hiding the evidence that could make him recognize as a pirate. The girl, even if forced to marry the commodore James Norringtonfeels in turn a very strong feeling for the young man Turner. On her wedding day, however, Elizabeth is kidnapped by the pirate Hector Barbossa and by his ship’s crew Black Pearl.

It is at that point that Will will be forced to make an unlikely alliance Jack Sparrow, the only one able to save the girl, being an expert connoisseur of the seas and an old ally of Barbossa. In the course of their research, however, the two discover that they are dealing with something that goes beyond human understanding. Barbossa and her crew are in fact victims of an ancient curse, from which they can only free themselves thanks to the blood of the heir of a well-known pirate. Thus begins a journey across the seas that will lead Jack, Will and Elizabeth to face adventures they never thought possible.

The curse of the first moon: the cast, ships and locations of the film

The undisputed star of the film is the actor Johnny Depp, who thanks to his portrayal of the pirate Jack Sparrow earned his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor, as well as delivering to the world one of the most memorable characters from cinema in recent decades. As is well known, in bringing him to life Depp was greatly inspired by his friend Keith Richardsguitarist of the Rolling Stones. There were also many interpretations he performed, most of which ended up in the film. Next to him, in the role of Will Turner, there is instead Orlando Bloomalready famous for playing Legolas in the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings.

Since she was still a minor at the time of filming, the actress was accompanied by her mother throughout the set. They then find themselves in the film the Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush as Hector Barbossa and Jonathan Pryce in those of Weatherby Swann, Elizabeth’s father.

As for the locations, however, the volcano island was chosen St.Vincentin the Caribbean, as the main filming location, as it had a particularly quiet beach. Three Port Royal and Tortuga piers were built there. Of great importance for the film were the three ships: Black Pearl, Dauntless And Interceptors. For budgetary reasons, the ships were built on the docks, with only six days spent at sea for the battle between the Black Pearl and the Interceptor. The first two were built on barges, with computer-generated imagery completing the structures. Instead, the Interceptor was a revised Lady Washington, a full-scale, working replica of the vessel from Aberdeen, Washington.
