Shaft is an action-thriller film released on June 16, 2000. The film Shaft tells the story of a member of the New York police force (NYPD), John Shaft II, who is assigned to investigate a murder of a racial background. Shaft tells about a member of the New York police force named John Shaft II (Samuel L. Jackson) who is assigned to investigate the murder of Trey Howard (Mekhi Phifer).
The murder allegedly had a racial background and was carried out by Walter Wade Jr (Christian Bale). Walter Wade Jr. himself is the son of a conglomerate, owner of a wealthy property company. Shaft immediately looked for an eyewitness named Diane Palmieri who most likely knew a lot about the murder.
But Diane Palmieri went missing before the trial. Because no one can prove his guilt, Wade was actually released on bail. Wade immediately fled to Switzerland. Two years later, Wade returns and Shaft immediately arrests him because Wade has fled to Switzerland. During his temporary detention, Wade meets Peoples Hernandez, a Dominican drug lord.
Wade shows his passport and is again released on bail. Shaft was annoyed and decided to resign from the NYPD. Shaft promises to bring Wade to justice and send him to jail on his own terms. Wade is also worried that Shaft can find Diane, the witness who disappeared. Wade eventually hires Peoples to find and kill Diane before Shaft is found.
In order to find Diane faster, Shaft enlists the help of Detective Carmen Vasquez and taxi driver Rasaan. One of the people Shaft met was Diane’s mother but she was uncooperative. It was there, Shaft realized that he was being followed by police officers, Jack Roselli (Dan Hedaya) and Jimmy Groves (Ruben Santiago-Hudson), who had been paid by Hernandez.
Shaft finally finds Diane. But before they had time to talk, the gunshots scattered everything. Shaft, Diane, and Rasa run away. On one occasion, Diane admitted that she did see the whole process of Wade’s murder, but she did not go to court because she had been rewarded by Wade’s father for silence.
Shaft and Diane have a problem that needs to be solved, which is to escape from the hitmen, become a witness in court and maybe also expose corrupt practices in the police force.
